Everyone Loves the Beach!

Fall is here, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have “locals” enjoying the beach. This time of year, the beach is ideal for morning coffee breaks, lunchtime gatherings, or evening sunsets, as they are spectacular. We also have some amazing activities going on, so be sure to check out our calendar of events! We hope you’ll be able to join in the fun or at least have a lunch break with someone else who enjoys our beaches as much as we do.

Fall into the Sunsets!

As the cooler months are on the horizon, our sunsets are some of the best to be seen this time of year. And just because summer is over doesn’t mean that beach time is over. There is still plenty of sun and sand to enjoy, so make your plans to visit.

Cool Breezes On The Horizon!

Ah, school is back, football is returning, and September marks the beginning of fall. While some of our readers will begin to experience cooler weather, our weather here at the beach will stay warm, with morning and evening cool breezes blowing in off the Gulf. As we embark on the fall season, this time of year is especially beautiful here in Mexico Beach, when our sunsets are painted with those key colors of pink, auburn, and red hues. If you have yet to see a fall sunset in Mexico Beach, this is your chance to visit!

Sunsets Return

We are fortunate to experience a beautiful sunset every day here in Mexico Beach. It’s a free art show that we hope everyone visiting gets to enjoy. We want you to know you are invited to experience one of these marvelous sunsets, and you can return for more. If you’ve not made it down to the beach this year or need a reason to come back, we invite you to join us. The upcoming fall is when it starts to cool down in the evenings, so now is the time to use that PTO! And Mother Nature will paint you a beautiful picture in the sky when you are here.

Happy Birthday, America!

The 4th of July is a big celebration in Mexico Beach. The day starts off with the Sandy Shoes 5k Fun Run and ends with our Best Blast on the Beach fireworks show. This year was another great time, and we hope all our friends enjoyed the festivities. A big thank you to all those who made the race and fireworks show possible.

Fish On! Are You Ready?

This month kicks off not only Red Snapper season in the Gulf but also the GollyWhopper Classic. This is one fishing tournament you won’t want to miss. On June 22, anglers from all over will try to bring in the largest fish to win the big prize purse. Registration is open. This year’s tournament is being hosted by Mexico Beach Fire Rescue and its amazing volunteers. The Captain’s Party and Weigh-in will take place at the Boat Ramp Park, and both events are open to the public. The Captain’s Party will be held Friday, June 21, at 5:00 p.m., where you can register for the tournament and enjoy live music and some great food. Weigh-in will be on Saturday, June 22, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Come see the amazing fish caught and hear some GollyWhopper tales!

News and New Additions

This month, we give a tip of the firefighter’s helmet to our Mexico Beach Fire Department and Public Safety services. Chief Sandy Walker secured a state grant that allowed the department to purchase a new pumper truck for its firefighting arsenal. This latest addition to the department brings the number of fire and safety vehicles to three, providing enhanced capability for our community’s needs. Congratulations, Chief Walker, and thank you to all those who help protect our residents and visitors in times of need.

Springtime and Sunshine

It’s springtime here at the beach, and it has been busy. The sand is beautiful, the waters are warmer, and beach activity is in full swing, with families enjoying the shore. Also, our fishermen are enjoying those early morning castings off the sand, hoping to reel in the big one. Will we truly know if they do? We are also experiencing breathtaking sunsets and often overlook our sunrises. So, when we decide to get up early, we can enjoy the impressive cloud formations over the beach with the sunrise painting the skyline. We truly live in paradise and hope you will visit this spring or summer!

Thar She Blows!

It was a welcoming sight and a wonderful addition last month when the new City dredge arrived in our little fishing village. It looks somewhat like the old dredge but is more powerful, quieter, and has better fuel efficiency. The new dredge has state-of-the-art mechanics that will improve the ability to keep the canal open and free from sand traps as much as possible with weather factors. This arrival received a warm welcome, and it’s an excellent way to start our beach season off on a positive note. The beaches are beautiful, the canal is open, and we are ready to welcome all our visitors for spring and summer. Y’all come visit!

Love & Gumbo!

February is the month of love, and what could be more lovely than gumbo? Our world-famous Gumbo Cook-Off is just days away, and we are ready! The cook-off will take place at the Boat Ramp Park and is sure to bring all the flavor, fun, and love. Live music by Stainless Steel, award-winning gumbos and Brunswick stews to taste, desserts to enjoy, beverages, and free beads will ensure your day in Mexico Beach is lovely. We hope you’ll mark your calendars to enjoy not only February 17 but all month here in Mexico Beach!

Happy New Year from the Beach!

It’s the start of a new year here in Mexico Beach, and we’re excited to see all the great things 2024 brings to our beaches. Our beaches are spectacular, and we are continually improving. A new addition to our beach town is a playground located at Parker Park. Donated by the Bay County Chamber Leadership Bay Class of 2023, this playground will give kids and parents endless memories. We hope all ages will enjoy this new addition for many years to come.
